Marine Aquarium Digha

Once known to be the largest Aquarium in Asia, the Digha Marine Aquarium and Research Centre (MARC) is located at 21°37 21"N 87°31 5"E diagonally opposite the Digha State General Hospital in Digha - the beach town in West Bengal State of India.

The Marine Aquarium and Research Centre sprawls over 6 acres of land and the aquarium houses 24 large marine tanks and 10 freshwater tanks with compressed air supply and regulated lighting and inflow and outflow of water which preserve and display more than 20 varieties of aquatic life such as live sharks, octopus, crabs, seals, sea snakes, fish etc.

The Digha Marine Aquarium has the country s largest in-built Marine Aquarium which is used to showcase and create awareness of the Biodiversity of the Digha region. The aquatic Life of Digha can be explored here. This centre can host 100 visitors at a time. This centre is also utilized for marine research by students from all over the country.

It was established in the year 1989 during the Seventh Five-Year Plan. The major objective of the Centre is to display the marine biodiversity of the region and impart its values to the common people and carry out research activities.

MARC has the largest inbuilt marine aquarium in the country and is equipped with seawater circulation system and advanced filtration unit. 

Hundreds of visitors visit the Aquarium every day. The aquarium is open to the public on all working days from 9.3 0 A.M. to 6 P. M.
