Old Digha's Delightful Extension | New Digha

Beach

Digha is a quaint coastal town nestled along the shores of the Bay of Bengal in the state of West Bengal, India. Revered as the most sought-after sea resort in West Bengal, Digha draws countless tourists, especially those hailing from Kolkata, who flock to its shores each weekend, transforming it into a veritable haven for sea enthusiasts.

Situated a mere 187 km away from Kolkata, Digha boasts a gently sloping sandy beach, stretching a generous 7 km, providing an idyllic setting for sea bathing. The charm of this picturesque destination lies in its mesmerizing panorama, with casuarina plantations adorning the entire length of the coastline. Not only do these trees enhance the beach's aesthetics, but they also serve as a formidable defence against erosion.

Originally named "Beerkul," Digha earned its fame for its expansive, firm beaches, granting visitors the liberty to embark on leisurely strolls and scenic drives during low tides. However, the quaint seafront of Old Digha has experienced significant soil erosion, leading to the emergence of New Digha, a delightful extension located merely 2 km away. This more recent area has a beautiful stretch dotted with Casuarina forests, and its calm waters provide a haven for both swimmers and sea bathers.
