Accessing Goa, India: A Comprehensive Guide by Air, Road, and Train
Goa attracts tourists from all over the world because of its beautiful beaches, energetic lifestyle, and green surroundings. Accessing Goa is simple and offers a number of options to suit your preferences, whether you prefer the ease of air travel, the adaptability of road excursions, or the picturesque attractiveness of train rides.
By Air:
Dabolim Airport (GOI): The Goa International Airport, also known as Dabolim Airport, is the primary gateway to Goa by air. It is well-connected to major cities across India and several international destinations.

1. From Mumbai: The Mumbai-Goa Highway (NH66) is a popular route. The journey takes around 10-12 hours, covering approximately 600-700 kilometers. The route passes through beautiful coastal towns, offering scenic vistas and delightful pitstops.
2. From Bangalore: The Bangalore-Goa route (NH48) is another option. The journey takes approximately 9-10 hours, covering around 550-600 kilometers. The road winds through the Western Ghats, offering breathtaking views.
3. From Pune: The Pune-Goa route is approximately 450-500 kilometers and takes around 8-9 hours. The route passes through scenic countryside and offers a mix of highways and local roads.
By Train:
Goa is well-connected to major cities in India through its railway network, offering scenic train journeys.
1. Vasco da Gama Railway Station (VSG) and Madgaon Junction (MAO): Vasco da Gama and Madgaon are the primary railway stations in Goa.
2. From Mumbai: Several trains like Konkan Kanya Express, Mandovi Express, and Jan Shatabdi Express connect Mumbai to Madgaon and Vasco da Gama.
3. From Bangalore: Trains like Yeshvantpur Express and Vasco da Gama Express connect Bangalore to Madgaon.

Tourists interested to stay in North Goa i.e., in stretch of Cadolim, Calangute, Baga, Ajuna, Vagator or Chapura - THIVIM is the nearest railway station.
From Mumbai: Thivim is connected to Mumbai through regular trains like the Konkan Kanya Express, Mandovi Express, and Jan Shatabdi Express. These trains provide convenient access for travelers from Mumbai to North Goa.
From Pune: Trains like the Poorna Express and Matsyagandha Express link Pune to Thivim, allowing travelers from Pune to easily reach North Goa by train.
From Delhi: While there are no direct trains from Delhi to Thivim, travelers can take trains to nearby cities like Mumbai or Pune and then proceed to Thivim.
South Goa:
South Goa is known for its serene beaches, laid-back ambiance, and historical sites. The primary railway station serving South Goa is Madgaon Junction, also known as Margao.

From Mumbai: Several trains like the Konkan Kanya Express, Netravati Express, and Matsyagandha Express connect Mumbai to Madgaon. These trains offer an accessible route for travelers from Mumbai to South Goa.
From Bangalore: Trains like the Yeshvantpur Express and Vasco Da Gama Express link Bangalore to Madgaon, providing a rail link for travelers from Karnataka.
From Chennai: Trains like the Chennai Egmore Vasco Express connect Chennai to Madgaon, allowing travelers from Tamil Nadu to reach South Goa by train.

There are many ways to get to Goa, depending on your travel interests. Your trip to Goa will undoubtedly be thrilling and unforgettable whether you opt for the ease and quickness of flying, the independence of driving, or the picturesque appeal of taking the train.
Actually, my journey to Mumbai & Goa from Guwahati was started on by Kamrup Express with my family. There are many options to reach Goa from Guwahati by train, but we made reservations in three different trains breaking our journey at Howrah, Mumbai (CST or may say VT) and finally my destination Madagan. My onwards and returned journeys by trains are –

But one can also reach GOA(Madgaon) from Guwahati by Rajdhani (train) to New Delhi and then From New Delhi to Goa (Madgaon) by Express trains.

Another option is direct to Mumbai by superfast train from Guwahati and then Madgaon from Mumbai. Madgaon is the junction station of Kankan railway, all trains to or from GOA terminate or originate here. It is about a 760 km train journey through Konkan Railway, takes through 90-meter-high bridges and a number of tunnels.

One important thing I felt to mention here is that if the journey starts from the Mumbai side and one has to go main tourist spots of GOA, better to decide first where to stay in GOA.
In my opinion, it is better to stay either at Panaji (Capital of Goa, South Goa) or at Calangute (North Goa). If one wants to stay at Panjim /Panaji should stop at Karmali Railway station (before Madgaon) which is nearest to Panjim. And at Trivim railway station (before Karmali) for tourists interested to stay at Calangute.
In Goa , there is no meter auto or taxi, auto or taxi fare is not reasonable in comparison with other cities. So, it is better to go long distance journeys by bus. As a visitor, you have the option to "RENT A BIKE" or "RENT A CAR" to get around Goa, which you can afford for Rs. 300 for a bike and Rs. 2000 for a car every day. In this case, the rental fee per day is what matters, not the vehicle's or bike's carrying capacity.
